Program Note
“Studies on Human Physiognomy I” is a piece that investigates non-verbal communication through facial expression. The work abandons the traditional score to focus on a series of blocks of expressions (in juxtaposition or in polyphony), where each gesture and physiognomic nuance builds an “emotional language” of its own. The performers are free to adapt and amplify these expressions drawn in the score, revealing their interpretation and the depth of non-verbal communication, and how the face and the way the audience perceives it, become the main vehicle of meaning.
